History

The Boys and Girls Clubs of South Yorkshire was formed in 1942 and was originally called the Boys’ Clubs of South Yorkshire, over the years there has been name changes (formally South Yorkshire Clubs for Young People, however we have returned to our original name with the addition of young women and girls).

At that time there was a strong need to provide young men with opportunities to experience activities and sports and give them a safe and secure environment in which they could meet, at no cost to themselves.

Over the years our work has changed, with the addition of young women to our clubs while the high levels of commitment and hard work undertaken by the staff is maintained year-on-year to give these people experiences they may not otherwise have a chance to enjoy.
